Green River Ferry Road South and Echo River Springs Trail to Temporarily Close for Construction Work 

“Closures are required to complete projects involving the installation of a canoe and kayak river access ramp and 200 ft. pedestrian bridge over the Echo River, and a vehicle ramp extension at the Green River Ferry crossing. The temporary closure ​will be in effect until further notice.”

“The Green River Ferry will close Tuesday, September 8 to complete the last steps of a vehicle ramp extension project. The ramp work will require a three month closure of all river access points at Green River Ferry and at Dennison Ferry. The only river access point will be at Houchin Ferry. Access to the Green River outside of the park, upstream in Munfordville, KY and downstream in Brownsville, KY, will remain available for use. Mammoth Cave Volunteers Receive Regional Hartzog Award

Mammoth Cave National Park officials are pleased to announce the Boy Scouts of America (BAS) Troop 47 of Franklin, KY are the recipients of Interior Region 2 (South Atlantic-Gulf) of the National Park Service’s (NPS) George and Helen Hartzog Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. The troop was nominated and won under the youth group category for their work in improving the Sal Hollow backcountry campsite.”

Mammoth Cave National Park seeks public comments on a proposed increase in cave tour and camping rates which would take effect in 2021. Information on the fee increase is available for view and comment on the park’s Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website from Monday, August 24 to Tuesday, September 22.”

Green River Ferry Closes for Mussel Relocation Project and Paving on August 17-20 

“The Green River Ferry and Green River Ferry Road north in Mammoth Cave National Park will be closed to all vehicular traffic on August 17-20 in order to complete a freshwater mussel relocation project and pavement preservation project. The Green River in Mammoth Cave National Park contains some of the most diverse populations of freshwater mussels in North America. Over 50 species of mussels are found, ten included on the federally endangered list.”

Mammoth Cave National Park Holds Teacher Workshops

Mammoth Cave National Park Environmental Education Program held four overnight teacher workshops in conjunction with The Friends of Mammoth Cave National Park (Friends). The workshops were funded through a State Farm Good Neighbor Citizenship Education grant of $6,000 which was received by Friends at the beginning of 2020.

Mammoth Cave National Park will begin construction on several improvement projects planned for the Green River Ferry area starting on Monday, July 20. The park will begin construction on a canoe and kayak river access ramp and the installation of a pedestrian bridge over the Echo River.

Green River Ferry Service and Road to Temporarily Reopen to Vehicles

“Mammoth Cave National Park will temporarily reopen the Green River Ferry and Green River Ferry Road to vehicular traffic on Monday, July 6 for service seven days a week from 6 am to 9:55 pm CST. The newly retrofitted ferry was certified for service by the United States Coast Guard, but construction on the south ramp of the vehicle crossing is still needed. Commuters should anticipate an additional closure of the ferry later in the summer.”

Mammoth Cave is Modifying Operations to Implement Latest Health Guidance

As of Tuesday, March 24, all campgrounds in the park are closed until further notice. The park has already closed all cave tours and the visitor center in response to the CDC guidance. Where it is possible to adhere to the latest health guidance park trails will be open for hiking, biking and equestrian use.

Mammoth Cave National Park Suspends Tours, Closes Visitor Center Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Mammoth Cave National Park will temporarily suspend all cave tours and close the Visitor Center until further notice beginning Wednesday, March 18th. Campgrounds and trails, as well as restrooms adjacent to the visitor center will remain open. Today, the park will offer an Extended Mammoth Passage tour, as a transition to the temporary closure.

Volunteer with AmeriCorps NCCC at Mammoth Cave

An AmeriCorps NCCC team is hosting a community service day with Mammoth Cave National Park (NP) and Friends of Mammoth Cave (FOMC) as part of the National Park Service’s commemoration of the 400 years of African American history in the United States. Volunteers are needed to help clear a pathway to cemetery prepare for the installation of a large granite memorial.
