Serving as an ambassador to
enhance the visitors’
experience through enjoyment of Mammoth Cave National Park
by encouraging multi-activity experiences to gain a
well-rounded understanding and appreciation for all facets
of the park.
-
$9,500 to develop an
“eHike” for one of the park’s cave tours. This
program would be placed on the park web site so that
visitors could view pictures, videos, and 360-degree
panoramas along with short ranger talks. This eHike
would program for Mammoth Cave National Park would be
modeled after two award-winning eHike programs that were
established for Glacier National Park (see
http://home.nps.gov/glac/photosmultimedia/ehikes.htm).
-
$3,000 to prepare a
revision to the 1995 book: “Guide to the Surface Trails
of Mammoth Cave National Park.” The copyright for
this book is owned by Stan Sides and any revision would
need his approval. If he were to sell the copyright,
Eastern National could then print the revised edition.
-
$15,000 for two Western
Kentucky University interns to work at Mammoth Cave
National Park for 3-4 months performing trail
management work (stream crossings, erosion control,
brush trimming, re-route work, etc.)
-
$5,000 to purchase
Mammoth Cave National Park rack cards and additional
copies of the Mammoth Cave Explorer for Kentucky Welcome
Centers (particularly for the Bullitt County and Simpson
County Welcome Centers and the Hart County Rest Area).
Providing this information to visitors at Kentucky
welcome centers and selected rest areas would enhance
public interest and provide necessary trip-planning
information. Distributing the Mammoth Cave National
Park rack card further out into Ohio, Indiana, and
Tennessee would be even more beneficial.
